In speaking on the growth of SouthWest Airlines, which carried more U.S. passengers than any other airline in 2008, Mr. Kelly said, “It was never our objective to be the biggest - I think that’s kind of a foolish objective - actually, something that you take pride in, the objective was to be excellent in everything that we do.” (U.S. Air Force Photo/Staff Sgt. Mr. Kelly said employees have to come first because they are responsible for the company’s success. “We expect our leaders to spend the majority of their time and efforts making sure our employees have their support; that they have the tools that they need to succeed at Southwest,” Mr. Kelly said. “We think that by focusing on the needs of our employees, and making sure that they’re met, we’re creating an environment of trust, we’re creating an environment of respect that we hope will be passed on to the customer.” (U.S. Air Force Photo/Staff Sgt.
