Knapp created a prototype 3-D printed toolbox latch that has been used to replace latches on 50 of the squadron’s toolboxes, saving more than $17,500. Toolboxes belonging to the 728th AMS kept having the latches break, and replacement parts or boxes took as long as two months to be delivered and cost the squadron $450 each.
