Medal of Honor Man - Col. Joe Jackson

This photo shows the C-123 Provider (center) flown by retired Col. Joe Jackson, a Medal of Honor winner from the Vietnam War, on the day he earned the medal on May 12, 1968 in Vietnam. Colonel Jackson is the only living air mobility Medal of Honor recipient. On that day, Mother's Day, Colonel Jackson successfully evacuated a three-man combat control team from a forward operating base in Vietnam that was under heavy enemy fire. Colonel Jackson showed this photo in a presentation entitled "Medal of Honor Flight" at the 2008 Airlift/Tanker Association convention in Anaheim, Calif. (U.S. Air Force Photo/Tech. Sgt. Scott T.
