Fifteen Advanced Study of Air Mobility students delivered their Graduate Research Paper presentations to Air Force Institute of Technology and U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Operations School faculty, USAF Expeditionary Center staff, and online viewers from around the Air Force via the Defense Collaboration Services, June 1 and 2 at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey.

Students worked with industry professionals, mentors, and service members in respective fields to study and formulate options to address challenges facing the Air Force and Mobility partners.

Topics included Retention, Aircrew Training/Accessioning, Cybersecurity, Energy savings, Non-Permissive Environments, and more. The presentations were the final step in the program, which will culminate with graduation on June 16.

Advanced Study of Air Mobility students spend 13 months completing the rigorous academic program and are exposed to the military and commercial facets of logistics as well. During the year they visited various Combatant Commands and commercial partners such as FedEx, Amazon, and BNSF Railroad.

This combination of military, commercial, and academic logistics topics prepares Joint service members to adopt best practices and lead innovative changes in the logistics operations at their future assignments.

Some of this year's graduates will move on to key planning and logistics positions at Headquarters Air Force, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, U.S. Northern Command, Pacific Air Forces, and U.S. Air Forces in Europe where they will provide key inputs in the implementation and management of Mobility forces. Others have been selected to attend the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies or to become a squadron commander.

Nearly 400 students have completed the ASAM program since it began in 1994. It was developed to deliberately build future Mobility leaders who are prepared to address the dynamic, complex future of National Defense. Field Grade Officers from different career fields such as logistics readiness, maintenance, and pilot complete Intermediate Developmental Education and earn a Graduate Degree upon completion through the EC’s partnership with AFIT.

The research papers from the ASAM class of 2017 are now sent to AFIT to be assessed and later released, but previous years’ research papers are available HERE (common access card required).
