Fact Sheet: Expeditionary Operations School

The USAF Expeditionary Operations School of the USAF Expeditionary Center is the Air Force’s Center of Excellence for expeditionary operations, and mobility skills training and education.

For over 25 years, the school has provided responsive and innovative training solutions that produced the most technically proficient, best educated, and best trained Airmen in the world.  During this time the school has gained a reputation for providing outstanding training that enables graduates to thrive and win in the dynamic operational environments that challenge mission success on a daily basis.

The USAF EOS prepares Airmen by providing relevant credible, and responsive training to meet MAJCOM and HAF requirements. The EOS offers a broad spectrum of training, from expeditionary and field skills, to global theater C2, to logistics and intel.

The EOS offers 81 in-resident courses and graduates approximately 8,000 students per year from the EC main campus at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ, mobile training teams, and from the 435th Training Readiness Squadron’s Hurlburt Air Force Base, FL, and Scott Air Force Base, IL, operating locations.  The school also offers 23 distance learning courses that approximately 30,000 students complete annually.

The USAF EOS main campus is located at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ and has a squadron with operating locations at Scott AFB, IL, and Hurlburt Field, FL.  The school is organized into the following four subordinate organizations.

The Dean of Academics oversees the overall quality and currency of faculty and curriculum, as well as the in-processing and graduation requirements of enrolled students.

The 421st Combat Training Squadron is a selectively manned unit composed of 42 unique Air Force Specialty Codes dedicated to its Chief of Staff of the Air Force chartered mission to deliver expeditionary combat support training to over 5,000 USAF, Joint and NATO personnel annually. The 421 CTS "Scorpions" accomplish this mission via thirteen expeditionary ground combat focused field training and academic courses, while managing $94 million worth of training facilities and equipment.  The Scorpions provide in-house course support through a fully operational medical clinic and lodging facilities with over 500 bed spaces. The Scorpions also maintain and operate a fleet of 147 tactical and general purpose vehicles, and account for over 1,000 U.S. and foreign weapon systems all designed to provide students with vital skills and familiarization training on resources available to them in their deployed locations.  The Scorpions are responsible for developing and conducting pre-deployment field craft skills training for the hostile and uncertain environments, air advisor training, contingency response force formal training, air base opening readiness, and executing Air Mobility Command’s Security Forces Phoenix Raven Qualification Course. 

The 423d Training Squadron delivers 64 advanced courses for joint, interagency, intergovernmental & multinational partners across the globe. The 423d Instructor cadre consists of 30 Air Force Specialty Codes that are responsible for providing credible, relevant and unparalleled education in: Aerial Port Operations; Air Mobility Command Quality Assurance Supervision Course; Anti-Terrorism Level 2; Combat Air Force Aircraft Maintenance Supervision & Production Course (MSPC); C5 & C17 Aerial Port Expeditor; Deliberate Crisis Action Planning & Execution Segments; Global Strike Command Aircraft & Missile MSPC; Host Aviation Resource Management; Installation Deployment Officer Course; Intel support to Force Protection; Joint Aircraft Loading Course; Mobility Air Force Intelligence Formal Training Unit; Mobility Air Force MSPC; Principles of Air Transportation Management; Rapid Global Mobility Courses; Squadron Aviation Resource Management; Unit Deployment Manager Course.

The 435th Training Squadron is the newest squadron established under the USAF Expeditionary Operations School (EOS) charged with training and educating all-domain command and control (C2) Mobility Warfighters. The 435 TRS “Eagles” mission is executed at two locations, Scott AFB, Illinois and, Hurlburt Field, Florida. The Eagles develop a wide range of mobility professionals from a variety of AFSCs while modifying courses to meet current evolving worldwide operations.  Combined, the squadron delivers 32 C2 courses including Functional and Geographic Air Operations Center training, AMC Command Post, Air Mobility Liaison Officer, Director of Mobility Forces, and Landing Zone Operations. The 435th  graduates approximately 1,200 students annually who then integrate back with their respective, Wings, MAJCOMs, Air Operations Center or Joint Force Commander directly impacting the global environment and operations. The EOS Detachment 1, Hurlburt Field, FL activated November 1, 1998, and Detachment 2, Scott AFB, IL activated December 1, 2005, furled their flag and established the 435th TRS on April 14, 2021.
